with design and materials fromvillage home stores. like manyin our area the original kitchen included awall that divided the kitchenfrom the dining area. this wall not only crowded thekitchen, but it blocked a lotof great light from enteringinto the space. now in the location where thewall once stood is a peninsulaof cabinetry and countertop that has quicklybecome a favorite place forvisiting grandchildren. this large work surface isperfect for many tasks. nomatter who is using the kitchen orwhat they're doing engineeredquartz counters are always anexcellent choice. this quartz is called "sierramadre" and is from our silestone quartz line. engineered quartzis non porous and it's alsoconsidered
a food safe surface. the use ofsilestone quartz in this kitchen adds an additional piece ofmind because it includesbacteriostatic protection. bacteriostatic protection meansthat silver ions are included in the quartz during themanufacturing. these silverions prevent the propagation of of bacteria. can't you justpicture a group ofgrandchildren all gathered at this quartz countertop makingchristmas cookies? an outlethas been installed at the very end of thispeninsula. this is perfect forsmall appliances or even a laptop to be plugged in whenthe peninsula is being used asa desk surface. with all of those guests and abright new space to enjoy thesehomeowners better
stock up on some snacks.there's plenty of places tostore them on this wall of cabinetry. fresh foodstorage can be found on thisnew counter-depth french-door kitchenaidrefrigerator. an interior waterdispenser and ice maker below eliminatesthe need for an indoor waterand ice unit. that would take up a lot ofspace in the counter-depthmodel like this. next to that refrigerator is awide pantry cabinet that hasbeen fit with three adjustableheight sliding trays and a stationaryshelf above. the trays are a very versatile way to usethe space and allow the useraccess to see everything within. we love the addition ofthese baskets to these wideshelves.
the top section of this widepantry is another excellentstorage area. at 24 inches deep this area isperfect for storing bulk itemsor small appliances. believe it ornot this tall pantry cabinet is not the only pantry in thenew kitchen. just down the wall is a walk through pantry frontthat has been installed in thecorner with a glass doordisplay cabinet to the right. a door front hasbeen ordered to match the"seneca briarwood" rustic beech cabinetry of therest of the kitchen. thispantry front and 2 end panels were used toassemble the corner pantry area. walk through pantry fronts arefantastic because you can trulycustomize the shelving
behind them anyway you wouldlike. this customer installed amotion sensor light on the interior ofthe pantry so that when thedoors open the lights turn on, and after just a few minutesthe lights automatically turnoff. while we didn't do any of theinstall work for this kitchenwe knew the project was in goodhands by a very skilled carpenter. hewas able to build somebeautiful shelving inside of the pantry usingextra flooring and some trim.the display cabinet to the right of this pantryalso got the custom treatment.behind the mullioned glass doors are shelves used todisplay glassware. with lighting installed in thetop of this cabinet how does itmanage to light up the lowestshelf?
the center section of eachfinished shelf has been routedout to accommodate tempered glassinserts. this keeps the solidlook of the wood shelf, but allows the light topass through and displayeverything inside. the main prep are of thiskitchen is jam packed withgreat storage cabinetry. the corner of the peninsulaincludes a lazy susan cabinet. this cabinet grants access tothe entire corner area of thekitchen. notice that there is no centerpole to the lazy susan design.instead a fixed center shelf has asusan tray resting directly onit. to the right of this cornercabinet is a space designatedto store baking sheets and
cutting boards. instead of theexpected metal or wood divider a slide-out tray divider has beeninstalled. the walls of thistray are nice and tall so that nothing tumbles outwhen you pull the unit forward.this same cabinet can be used for storing lidsnear a pots and pans area.pull-out waste baskets have officiallymoved from the specialtycabinetry category and are now expected in almostall kitchen designs. we rarelydesign a kitchen that doesn't include one. manytime we're even including morethan one. the double bin option allowsyou to sort recyclables fromwaste at the time your cleaning up. at the veryend of this peninsula is astack of drawers
maximized for storage. the topsection of a wide-drawer stackcan be ordered with 2 top drawers inplace of 1. wooden flatwaredividers have even been installed into one ofthese top drawers to keep thesilverware sorted. deep drawers below offerversatile storage space. mixingbowls below and food storage items are all withinreach of the peninsula worksurface. speaking of drawers on eitherside of the whirlpool range arestacks of drawers. were finding that many of ourclients love the convenience ofimmediate access to items in a drawer in place of openingdoors and pulling out a shelf. pots and pans, towels, andutensils are all within reachof the cooking center of thisnew
kitchen. in the cooking centerof this new kitchen the whirlpool range also has alot to brag about for storage.with 6.2 cubic foot of oven capacityit includes space for up to 3racks within. fan convection at the back ofthe unit allows you to use thatspace to it's fullest potential. with the fanconvection distributing theheat within the oven cavity all three racks can beused at once. this fan also gives the clients therapid preheat option.pre-heating 21% faster. we wouldn't want tojust show you the storagecabinets without giving you a full lookat this gorgeous new space.
some of our other favoritedetails from this kitcheninclude fluted columns oneither side of the microwave hood, hand scraped hickoryhardwood flooring, and a customchalkboard area. this handy homeowner useda long magnetic chalkboard panel and installedit on the wall next to therefrigerator. he had us order some matchingfiller strips and a piece ofundercabinet molding for thebottom. imagine other areas of yourkitchen that could be great fora chalkboard command center like this.inside of a pantry, on the endof a refrigerator panel or even a panel of a cabinetdoor. the hickory hardwoodflooring is from our hallmark collection. the"sagebrush" finish is theperfect compliment

this might be a corner of akitchen, a piece of doorwaytrim near the back door or in this case a wooden panelin grandma's kitchen. ♪ the crew from village homestores was scheduled to begintearing out this existing kitchen in bettendorf the dayafter i snapped these photos.it was very important to some of thedecedents of our clients thatthis family museum of documented growth not getdamaged or discarded. one ofthe grandchildren left some very serious notesfor our carpentry crew. thekitchen along with along with this growth chart islocated along the back of aunique home that includes floorto ceiling glass with panoramicviews and tons of natural light.
this space is full of uniqueangles. the original layoutdivided up the room and dark cabinetry made it seemfar more cramped then it trulywas. tall cabinetry including 2refrigerators and a built inmicrowave shelf arranged in a way to create ahallway in the back end of thekitchen. the kitchen sink was located inthe center of the kitchen on awall divided the space from the front living area ofthe home. soffits drop down and wall cabinetry filled thespaces. a built in double ovenand cooktop were located on wall oppositeof the refrigerators. the new layout removes thistall hallway and opens up theentire space.
the sink wall of the newkitchen was given a whole newlook and function. a large portion of the wall wasremoved opening up the kitchento now be included in the entire lowerlevel of the home. views intoand out from the kitchen are nowmuch easier and natural lightpours in from all directions. this new space is stunning andpacked with excellent storagesolutions. we can't wait to share with youhow it turned out. when we comeback from a short break we're going to show youthe reveal of this bettendorfkitchen remodel. get a full tour when we return with moreof the village home show. are we ready to go? every actof care

my only sunshine. you make me happy when skies are gray. welcome to this bright andbeautiful new kitchen we'veremodeled completely from start to finish inbettendorf iowa. before we showyou the amazing storage cabinetryincluded in this design letstake a look at what you see right when you walk intothe new space. a portion ofthis sink wall has been removed and now thewall of windows behind me canpour light into the new kitchen and then beyond into theadjacent living room. anotherarea that's been opened up is the back section of thiskitchen that originally had asmall hallway space
built into the cabinet design.now the new kitchen has beenopened up into an extended u-shape layoutwith plenty of space in thecenter for a large dining table. the homeowneractually built this gorgeouslarge table themselves. it seats 10 comfortably and isperfect for entertaining a large group or enjoying your morningcoffee. oak cabinets have beenreplaced with a birch cabinet from ourkoch classic line. a brightwhite paint has been applied to a transitional styleflat panel door. we call thisstyle of door a flat panel becausethe center of the doors anddrawer is smooth with no details or raisedsections. flat panel doors havebeen nicknamed
the chameleon of door stylesbecause you can make them workin so many styles of spaces. the modern elements of thisbettendorf home allows for simple clean lines of thekitchen design to have analmost gallery effect on the space. white cabinets, a whitenatural stone countertop, andwhite subway tile all create a cleanand airy backdrop for anyactivity day or night. this whitebackdrop gives the hardwoodflooring a chance to really warm up the space andthe wood grain of the flooringand the table make quite a statement. speaking of astatement because of the sizeof the table in the space two large pendentlights were mounted above it.with panoramic
views overlooking themississippi river valley belowthis kitchen is surrounded bynature. it was important to includenatural elements in the newspace. the natural grains of the woodflooring and the table arecomplimented by the whitemacaubus natural stone countertopselected for this project. white macoubus is quarried fromthe northeast region of brazil. geologically speaking it is aquartzite very similar incharacteristics to a granite but quartzites are formed muchdifferently. sandstones withhigh quartz content under high heatand pressure melt into thequartzite material. this formation gives it a moremarbled look, but the quartzmaterial within it
gives you a harder materialsimilar to a granite. perfectfor this project white macoubus is known forit's white tone background andthe linear gray veining shown from side toside. the same material can becut and processed differently for avaried grain. because of thisthe name changes. when a factory processes themacoubus on a perpendicular, they call it calacattamacaubus. this is because itgives it a more marbled look. the new design includes wallovens, an electric cooktop with a canopy hood above and asink and dishwasher at this endof the kitchen. on the opposite side a 29 cubicfoot french door refrigerator,
microwave drawer, and a glassfront beverage cooler. the original kitchen layoutincluded 2 narrow refrigeratorsin the design. this new open area of thekitchen now has a kitchenaidfrench door refrigerator full of incredible storage anda secondary refrigerator found in the beverage cooler nearby.even if entertaining a largecrowd there's plenty of fresh foodand beverage storage available.this same zone of the kitchen is a perfectarea for food prep and baking.with open book shelves for cookbooks anda kitchenaid mixer right withinreach the stretch of countertop isnearly eight and a half feet towork at.
we asked the owners of this newkitchen what some of theirfavorite parts of the new spacewere. they responded with this at the top of theirlist. touch activated faucets are nothing new, bout ourcustomers are always commentingthat they are so glad to havethem. undermounted to the naturalstone counters is an egranitecomposite sink by elkay. available in anumber of layouts and finishes these durable sinks are a greatalternative to a high glosscast iron or stainless steel sink. with awall of cabinetry like this youhave many options of what type of hoodyou can include with yourdesign. we think the hood thesecustomers selected from us is right onpoint for the project. breakingup the wall

fit into the acute angle ofthis room. instead a blindcorner cabinet with swing out shelves isinstalled to give access to anotherwise difficult area to reach. soffits from theoriginal kitchen have beenremoved and now the wall cabinets are able toextend all the way to theceiling. you may need a stool to reach it, butinstead of a standard 30" tallwall cabinet a 42" tall cabinet now grants anadditional foot of shelfstorage inside. to the right of the dishwasheris a pull-out trash basket.centrally located the cabinet keeps a clean lookand eliminates a place to putyour waste basket. built inmicrowaves gives such acustomized look to any
design. keeping the microwaveoff the counter this cabinetwas ordered to include a storage drawer belowand leave just enough room forthis kitchenaid model to be built right into the cabinetry.the tall cabinets surroundingthe new refrigerator are filled with great storage.to the right a 21"wide pantry has been fit with slidingshelves. including slidingshelves in your tall pantry cabinets always gives youmaximum storage within makingthis space versatile for your own needs.because the refrigerator beingsurrounded is full depth the cabinet above is deepand offers even more space forsmall appliances or bulk items. the tall cabinetto the left of the refrigeratoris
